Tony Cronin

A life in theatre.
A deep commitment to Shakespeare.

Tony Cronin is a Los Angeles–based writer, actor, director, and Shakespeare specialist whose work spans the stage, film, and television. As Artistic Director of Theatre for a Small Space, he brings classical theatre and new writing to audiences in Santa Monica.

A graduate of Cornell University’s MFA programme in directing, Tony founded and led its Summer Shakespeare Festival and taught acting, voice, and Shakespeare. He later taught at the Gene Frankel Theatre and Film Workshop in New York’s Greenwich Village.

He has performed on stages in New York, Los Angeles, and the UK, and has been a regular performer with LA Opera since 2011. His directing work brings Shakespeare and Beckett into intimate spaces, where language and performance can be experienced up close.

Tony’s writing includes produced stage plays, two novels, screenplays, and a practical guide to performing Shakespeare. He is currently writing his third novel, American Lawmann.
